DJIN SPIRITS · COGNAC

Alcohol-free that actually tastes of something.

Craft-distilled in the family home in Saint-Brice, just outside Cognac.

WHY THIS ONE

I tasted 200 of them. One producer made me stop.

This is what I look for in an alcohol-free spirit: no sweetness, warmth in the throat, and concentrated, complex flavours that actually last.

The vast majority tasted sweet or synthetic. Some worked well enough hidden behind tonic, juice and garnish, but fell apart completely on their own in the glass.

Romuald Vincent in Cognac was the one who delivered on every point. He is also the only producer outside Miris Blend I have wanted to work with in this way.

HOW THE FLAVOUR IS BUILT

You don't win every award in Europe by taking shortcuts.

DISTILLATES, NOT READY-MADE FLAVOURING

Most competitors blend water with bought-in flavourings and extracts. Romuald builds the flavour from the plants themselves: botanical distillates, maceration, extraction and an aromatic method of his own.

It takes an extraordinarily long time. But that is also why the flavour develops in the mouth and lingers afterwards.

20 TO 30+ NATURAL INGREDIENTS

Passion and Immunité are each made with 20 botanicals. AmarOz is taken further with more than 30 – bitter orange, gentian and turmeric among them.

Rare herbs, roots, spices and flowers that together build layer upon layer of aroma, bitterness and depth.

NO SWEETNESS HIDING ANYTHING

The easiest way to hide a thin product is to add sugar. Passion and Immunité have 0 g sugar and 0 calories per 100 ml. AmarOz has under 0.2 g.

When alcohol was never the foundation, aroma, acidity, bitterness and body have to be built in other ways. That is exactly what has been done here.

THE MAN BEHIND THE BOTTLE

Romuald Vincent, former Cognac producer.

Romuald trained as an architect. When his grandfather Christian died, he taught himself the liqueur-maker's craft to revive the family's old production.

A bartender friend told him the market lacked a serious alcohol-free alternative for cocktails. He spent around a year in development before the first Djin batch was ready. Djin Spirits was founded in 2019.

Production still takes place in the family home in Saint-Brice, a small commune outside Cognac on the river Charente. We met at Wine Paris in 2025 and stood together at ProWein in 2026.

CRAFT FROM COGNAC

Built layer by layer, from plants.

Distillation captures the volatile aromas. Maceration and extraction draw out the bitterness, body and structure that distillation leaves behind.

The exact method is a trade secret. What matters is the result.

  • Distillation
  • Maceration
  • Extraction
  • Acidity
TWO INGREDIENTS

Michelin-level mocktails. No bartending course required.

No homemade syrups, six kinds of juice or a herb garden needed. When both ingredients already have concentrated flavour and structure, two is enough. Chill, pour, top with bubbles.

01MIRIS × PASSION

Dry, herbal and sparkling.

4 cl Passion + 12 cl Blanc de Blancs

Djin Passion is the most classic and gin-inspired of the three: herbal, spicy and warm, with aromas leaning towards forest, tea, flowers and pepper. Blanc de Blancs adds fresh acidity, creamy bubbles and a touch of brioche.

Almost like an alcohol-free French 75 – minus the lemon syrup and the sugar crash.

Best for
  • Aperitif
  • Crisps with crème fraîche and roe
  • Anyone who hates sweet mocktails
02MIRIS × IMMUNITÉ

Dark berries, flowers and pepper – without sweetness.

4 cl IMMUNITÉ + 12 cl BLANC AROMATIQUE

Blackcurrant, dark forest berries and violet first. Then mint, pepper and an elegant, lightly bitter finish. Blanc Aromatique is made from organic Cabernet Blanc and opens up the floral and dark aromas.

The result tastes bigger and more layered than the ingredient list suggests.

Best for
  • Chèvre with black pepper
  • Toasted almonds
  • Friday evenings
03MIRIS × AMAROZ

Dark, bitter and made for spritz.

6 cl AmarOz + 12 cl SPARKLING ROSÉ

If the first two are elegant aperitifs, this is the darker, more grown-up sister. Bitter orange, gentian and turmeric meet red berries, raspberry, rhubarb and bubbles from Édition Premier Rosé.

Bitter orange + red berries + acidity is classic aperitif logic. Here, just without the alcohol.

Best for
  • Green olives
  • Parmesan
  • Aperitivo
  • Negroni lovers

Why choose Djin?

The flavour is built from plant distillates – not from ready-made flavouring stirred into water

«Alcohol-free spirit» is an umbrella term, and the products behind it are made in very different ways.

Many competitors essentially blend water with ready-made flavourings and extracts. Djin combines artisanal distillation and extraction of more than 20 botanicals.

Nor does Djin make a gin that is first produced with alcohol and then de-alcoholised. The products are built from the plants, through distillation, maceration, extraction and an aromatic extraction method of its own.

That is an important difference. When alcohol was never going to be the foundation, aroma, bitterness, acidity, warmth, body and length have to be built in other ways.

0 g sugar in Passion and Immunité – because sweetness is so often a shortcut

Alcohol does far more than make you tipsy. It carries aroma, gives body and creates the warm sensation we associate with gin, whisky and bitters.

Remove the alcohol without rebuilding those functions and you are left with something that tastes like flavoured water. The easiest fix is to add a lot of sugar.

A little sugar is not automatically a quality problem – a bitter may need a touch of sweetness for balance. The problem arises when sweetness is used to hide a lack of concentration and aromatic depth.

Passion and Immunité: 0 g sugar and 0 kcal per 100 ml. AmarOz: under 0.2 g sugar, and only around 3 calories in a 4 cl serve.

Three bottles with three completely different jobs in the drinks cabinet

Djin Passion – dry, herbal, spicy and warming. The classic, gin-inspired one. On its own, or with Miris Blend Blanc de Blancs.

Djin Immunité – blackcurrant, dark berries, violet, mint and pepper with a lightly bitter finish. Fruity without being sweet. Especially good with Blanc Aromatique.

Djin AmarOz – bitter orange, herbs, gentian and turmeric. Dark, concentrated and long. For spritz, an alcohol-free Negroni, or on its own over ice with orange peel.

No bottle should have to be everything at once. That is why the three have completely different roles.

Award-winning across Europe – gold, silver and 94 out of 100 points

Djin Passion – 16 awards, including gold at Vinalies Internationales 2024 and gold at the World Alcohol-Free Awards 2023.

Djin Immunité – 7 awards, including gold from Falstaff Magazine 2026 and silver at the World Alcohol-Free Awards 2023.

Djin AmarOz – 9 awards, including double gold at the International Spirits Challenge 2024 and 94 out of 100 points with the title Révélation No/Low at Vinalies Internationales 2024.

Djin is used in alcohol-free mocktails at Michelin-starred restaurants in France. Miris Blend is served at Michelin-starred restaurants in Trondheim, Stavanger and Oslo.

You don't need a special occasion – the bottles keep for a long time after opening

This is one of the big advantages over wine.

Djin Passion and Immunité are stored at room temperature, away from heat and humidity. The producer guarantees at least six months after opening with no loss of flavour – Romuald himself says up to two years.

Djin AmarOz goes in the fridge after opening and should be used within six months.

So you can pour a few centilitres on a Friday evening, put the bottle back and pick up where you left off months later.

Organic, vegan and gluten-free – without compromising on flavour

All Djin products are made from organically farmed ingredients, and are both vegan and gluten-free.

Production takes place in the family home in Saint-Brice outside Cognac – not in a factory. Romuald forages some of the plants himself.

I am not bringing in Djin because alcohol-free spirits are trendy. I am bringing it in because the products deliver on the same criteria I use when judging traditional spirits: quality of raw materials, balance, intensity, complexity and length.
